Web squatter takes over Mysore Palace
MYSORE: Two years ago, there was euphoria when the Mysore Palace Board announced that the 100-year-old palace would be closer to people through www.mysorepalace.org.
But it didn’t register the domain. Now, a UK-based cyber squatter is looking at £7000 to vacate the place.
The domain, which had got over 1.5 lakh hits, is now up for grabs and board officials aren’t even aware of it.

DC S Selvakumar, its executive officer, says, “I heard visitors had some problems, but I don’t know why.” Deputy director A V Awaradi calls it a technical glitch: “We were told this is due to some server complications. The domain has been registered in the name of a web designer in Bangalore.
We’re not technically equipped to understand these problems. We don’t know what’s really happening.”
As a face-saving measure, it launched www. mysorepalace.in, but it is full of glitches. The information of the contact persons is dcmys@mysorepalace.org (the DC’s email ID) and awardi@mysorepalace.org (email ID of the deputy director). Given that the .org domain is up for sale, is e-mail to these addresses reaching them at all?

As per rules of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the domain www.mysorepalace.org should have been registered in the name of Mysore Palace
Board.Web designers in Mysore say the cost of registration of .org domains is a maximum of Rs 500.
The domain www.mysorepalace.in is registered in the name of a Mysore-based web-designing company.
The deputy director says: “We have paid the renewal and maintenance fee. We’re trying to get back the previous domain.
We are shocked that we have lost it. We’ll file a case against the violators.” As it happens, no tenders were invited to design the .in website.
Selvakumar told The Times of India: “We’ll refer the case to the cyber police to probe the issue.”
